10-reasons-your-fb-page-is-failing

You set up your Facebook Page a while ago, but you still don’t have many followers, likes or shares and you are not getting much out of it. What are you doing wrong?

Many Irish businesses forget about the social in social media and set up a page which is destined to fail. Find out why your Facebook page is not delivering for you and how you can start making it better…

10 Reasons your Facebook Page is Failing

1. Incomplete Facebook Page.

You haven’t fully completed your page. Your company information is poor and barely filled out. You don’t have a Timeline image at the top of your page and your profile picture is the wrong size so your logo doesn’t show up properly.

You may have not even claimed your facebook vanity url which makes it easier for customers to find you.

Take the time to complete these details and your page will benefit hugely. Be clear about what you do, don’t assume people will automatically know your business, as it maybe the first time they have found your company.

 2. Unclear Or No Goals

You are not clear about what you want to get out of Facebook for your business. There is no point in just setting up a Facebook page and leaving it lying there. You must have a clear goal about why you have a presence on Facebook in the first place.

Do you want to get more customers? Listen and interact with existing customers? Inform people about your products or updates in your industry?

Sit down and think about what you are trying to do and what action you are actually taking to achieve your goals.

 3.  Your Page is Boring.

When you look at your page what is interesting about it? What information are you posting that would cause people to stick around or come back? Give them information, offer them tips or coupons and do something to get them interested.

You need to give your customers something extra, engage with them with valuable information, listen to them and interact. Let them get to know your company…be social.

 4. You Are in a One Way Conversation.

It’s not just about what you want to sell. Think about entering your Facebook page as you would do at a dinner party, you don’t just go up to people and start blurting out 10% off tyres… instead you would have a glass of wine, mingle, talk to people, learn about them and build up a rapport. You would be “social”.

Be interested in helping your customers, give them valuable information and gain their trust. then they will buy from you. Nobody wants to be stuck with the person who just keeps talking about themselves non stop.

5. You are not responding to your customers comments.

Facebook needs to be monitored, nothing says, “We don’t care about our customers,” like unanswered Facebook comments.

However negative or meaningless, take the time for a polite response and, when necessary, follow up with an email.

Use the Facebook business mobile phone app to help you to stay on top of things. This will alert you whenever there is a comment or update on your page. It also has a handy feature to turn off in the evening and turn on automatically the next morning.

6. You Are Not Posting Frequently Enough.

If someone comes to your Facebook page and the last update was August 2012 , they are not going to stick around for long. After all they are there to find out something new and engage with you.

Plan your activity and schedule it in advance. If you just login to your facebook page on a Monday morning and think what am I going to post about today, you will end up getting frustrated trying to think or something at the last minute or it will get put on the long finger and won’t be done at all.

Decide when you are going to post and stick to it. It is better to be consistent when posting instead of doing it for 6 times in 2 days then leaving a gap for 3 weeks.

7. You don’t vary the type of posts on your page.

Pictures, graphics and videos make your page more interesting and inviting. Don’t have long wordy posts, this is a sure fire way for your content to be bypassed. You want your followers to engage with you and share your interesting content.

8. Unclear Call To Actions.

Once people arrive at your company’s Facebook page, they should have a clear idea of what to do and what’s available to them. Offers and calls-to-action should be prominently displayed, and any associated instructions should be easy to follow.

9. You Are Not Maximising Facebook Apps.

Facebook apps are a great way to share content with your visitors. Embed your website, have people sign up to your newsletter, provide exclusive content, give discount coupons , have a booking form, all from within your facebook page.

You can drastically increase the amount of content and levels of interaction within facebook by adding facebook apps to your page.

You can even direct customers to specific pages within your facebook page and turn consumers into brand advocates making it easy to like or share your page before accessing your content.

You can also run contests, sweepstakes and promotions to increase engagement on your page. (Important Note: you must use a facebook app to do this, as it is against facebooks T&C’s to run these from your wall & your page can be shut down).

10. No joined up measurement

Your social media page is not a stand alone silo and shouldn’t be measured as such. Even if you are reviewing your page insights, these need to be integrated into other online and offline marketing channels to create rich, detailed and fully comprehensive actionable information. If you are not measuring what is working for your business how are you going to rinse and repeat those tactics?

If you are guilty of the above, that is why your facebook page is failing. But at least you can fix it. It does take a while to build a social media presence, as you are developing a relationship with your customers and building trust. Start your social media presence on solid foundations and plan your activities in advance, before your competition does it first.
